Tribute To Our Friends on "The Rock"

Zane Grey on the Rock could not have been created without two collections of images generously shared with Zane Grey’s West Society by their owners.  The first are pictures of Zane Grey’s 1929 fishing trip to Newfoundland hosted at Brigham Young University in the L. Tom Perry Collections, Zane Grey, Inc. Collection. The second is a private Grey-family photo album entitled Nova Scotia & Newfoundland 1929: June, July & August owned by Daniel Zirilli.

The images are powerful. It took countless hours of research by the people of Newfoundland to breathe life into them.  Specifically, two Facebook pages, Newfoundland History Buffs and Burgeo’s Past, provide forums where past and current residents viewed dozens of images and tied them to people and places from their heritage.  Special thanks go to local historian, John Marsden, who guided us through sometimes murky waters of the Rock’s culture and history.
