Thomas J. Matthews

All of Zane Grey's guides were exemplary.  Unfortunately, even with the help of our Newfoundland friends, we were not able to identify them all.  We have talked about Frank Benoit who seemed to have a good relationship with R.C. Grey.  It is worth taking a moment to talk about Thomas J. Matthews who always seemed to be not far from Zane Grey.

Thomas Matthews is seen in several pictures from the Newfoundland trip.  However, his relationship with Zane Grey is perhaps best defined by a letter sent to him by Grey after the trip and an inscribed copy of the author's book, Fighting Caravans, that accompanied the letter.

Below are two images taken by Bob Carney spotlighting Thomas Matthews.
